Blepharoplasty

Description of the procedure

About the Surgery

Eyelid surgery is one of the most common procedures in plastic surgery. The upper eyelids usually begin to fade in the third decade of life and cause an older and sadder facial expression.

Blepharoplasty is the removal of excess skin from the upper or lower eyelids, in some cases along with fat pads and relaxed muscles. The effect of the surgery is long-lasting, in many cases even permanent. Blepharoplasty will restore the eyes to a natural and fresh look.

Who Is It Intended for?

Due to genetic predispositions as well as lifestyle (nicotine consumption, quality of sleep, exposure to sunlight), excess skin begins to form in the upper and lower eyelids at a certain age. For one thing, they don’t look aesthetically pleasing and for another, they can also cause health problems, such as eye fatigue or headaches. And this is the right moment for a consultation with a plastic surgeon.

Prior to the Procedure

It is necessary to stop taking medicines that reduce blood clotting or to replace them as instructed by your doctor. Prior to the procedure, it is necessary to remove make-up and wash your face thoroughly.

Surgery

It is performed lying on your back under local anaesthesia. At the client’s request, the procedure can be performed under general anaesthesia. The surgeon removes the marked excess skin and fat, then sutures the skin of the eyelids, and finally applies a Steri-strip fixation patch to the area.

Post Procedure

  • For the first days after the procedure, we recommend a strict resting mode. The ideal position is semi-sitting.
  • The patient should not lean forward, lift heavier objects, or perform activities that significantly increase blood pressure.
  • Watching TV is not recommended either.
  • A few nights after the procedure, it is advisable to sleep on your back, with your head in an elevated position.
  • If the patient is lying on his side, he might experience increased swelling on that side.
  • Bathing and using a sauna are prohibited until the stitches are removed.
  • Painkillers are not needed in most cases. Medication to remove swelling is usually prescribed.
  • A patient with fixation patches over the surgical wound shall keep them until the sutures are removed.
  • Sometimes it is advisable to apply the morning and evening cream intended for the treatment of fresh scars and wounds, or to apply cold compresses, thanks to which the swelling is absorbed faster.
  • The sutures are usually removed 5-7 days after the procedure.
  • The scars are initially pink. They fade over time, soften and are less visible.
  • The client can perform normal daily activities 10-14 days after the procedure.
  • Sun protection is absolutely necessary. 3-6 months after the procedure it is necessary to thoroughly protect the skin with SPF 50 cream!
